The Irish Robotics Club is nearly one year old. The last year has been great, from humble beginnings we managed to run 7 events and enter one international robotics competition last year. Not too shabby. Thanks to everyone who attend events and the Science Gallery for being our friendly home. So the plan for the coming year is onwards and upwards. Myself and Conor have been working on a "year 2 plan" to insure the club grows and becomes even more active. Firstly this website is being redesigned to make it more community based, allowing everyone to share and get credit for their projects (photos, videos, blog) and encourage interaction between members. We are  looking for a new logo/artwork for the site, so anyone design orientated who think they could give it a go would be much appreciated. We pay robot dollars,  in the future they will be worth a lot. (The green is #71A311 for those hex minded)

Secondly we are looking to increase our participation robotics competitions in the coming year, with more regular meetings for those interested in being part of a team. Our experience from last year was that the competitions were a great way for people to get involved with the club and we had great craic heading off and explaining robot filled suitcases to local customs officers.

If you happen to be passing by Ushuaia in Argentina, perhaps on your way to the Antarctic, and have a craving for robotics drop in and meet new friend of the site José Luis Bruni.  He teaches robotics and runs the science club down there. Check out his site (and brush up on your Spanish) here.

After too many nights of exchanging coffee for sleep the new site has gone live. You are looking at it.  Yes this one... well I like it.

Gone is the linear blog and my linear ramblings. The new site is all about you and it all starts with creating a profile, it takes less than a minute. Once done you are an author on the site and can add articles to the frontpage of the site, upload photos to the site gallery, make connections between you and other members and other goodies. Best thing is everything is that it is all linked back to your profile so you get full credit for all your work.

There may be bugs (there is almost definitely bugs) if you spot one feel free to point it out to me politely though my profile. I'll be tweaking the site over the next few weeks all feedback is welcomed.

Probably Ireland's premier robot event, well really Ireland's only robot event Roborugby is to be held on Monday 20th of April 2009 in the Clinton Auditorium in UCD. Starts at 7pm and everyone is welcome. Twenty-one unique autonomous robots, designed by first year engineering students from UCD, will compete against each other in a series of short matches, to determine the winner of RoboRugby. In each match, two robots will compete against each other on the RoboRugby table.  The objective for each robot is to move as many balls as possible into the scoring area at the end of the table opposite its starting position, in the time allowed. No intentional ramming of other robots to cause damage is allowed, but being rugby friendly "nudging" to impede opponents is encouraged :) As well as the firing of projectiles! which isn't in its human cousin's code of conduct

Fair play to the TOG guys! They are running two electronic fashion workshops in their space on Arran Quay on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of October from 2pm to 6pm.

The cost is €15 (€12 students/unwaged, €10 TOG members) take part in the workshops, with non-members welcome to participate.

Electroluminescent wire will raw material so whether you want to learn a bit of sewing, get your rave clobber in order or work on that TRON costume for Halloween don't miss it. Now were did I put my lilypad.

See you there! :)
