MakeNights

Make-any-sweater-an-ugly-Christmas-sweater.jpgIt has been a while since I last ran a Make Night, but the Christmas Jumper one is great!

Make Nights are returning to the Science Gallery 30th of November (6pm-8pm). Relaxed making will once again be the order of the day. Make Nights are about making anything you want at all in a friendly atmosphere, but since it is Christmas Season (well almost!) this extra special event is about making Christmas jumpers.

Yes think Bridget Jones Diary. Just bring a jumper and will we provide the materials to make it festive! We will have red ribbons, fake snow, holly etc ... So bring your creativity and any other "bits and pieces" you have to create an unique Christmas jumper which will wow your existing friends and win you new better friends.

As always Make Nights are open to all and is admission is Free.

{joomplu:225}That's right folks there's a Make Night is happening in Science Gallery on Wednesday 25th August (6-8pm). Just TWO days away! or if you are reading this in the future (wow!) possibly less!

The idea of a "Make Night" is simple - come along to the Science Gallery and make ANYTHING you like, in the company of other "makers" doing the same. Share ideas, materials and tools. Show off your projects and learn from the experience of others. Drink coffee and talk to friendly creative people. Engineers, artists, jam makers, glue and glitter experts all welcome. Pick a project, get your materials together and join in the fun.

It's a chance to show off your skills or get a little more done on that project you were working on but is now in a cupboard. You know the one, yes that one! by the way it needs more LEDs

Past Make nights have included:Iced Cupcakes, fire breathing robots, origami, crocheting coral, sewing handbags, Shark themed melon sculptures, Catapults, Poetry, milk bottle musical instruments, hot air balloons, guitar pedals.

As always its free, just bring your materials and get making.

So I'm going to be talking at  091labs in Galway this Saturday (21st August) at 2:30pm as part of the hackerspace week events happening down there. Its likely a little about robotics and some of the projects I've worked on will fall out of my mouth followed by a make night (during the day :)) and a robotics workshop for those interested. I'll be getting the hoverbus back to Dublin in time for another make night on Wednesday (6pm-8pm) up in our usual  Science Gallery home.

If you don't catch me on either coast, I'll be representing the Irish Robotics Club at Electric Picnic. There I'll be giving an EL wire Workshop on the 4th of September in the Science Gallery tent (mindfields)

We'll also be rescheduling an brief introduction to Robotics workshop, so people can meet and get on the right track for entering  "Robotic Arena" competition in Wroclaw, Poland in November. Post about this will be up soon

Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us! The robotics club is one year old and before the terrible two's start its time to celebrate.

There will be a hands on "introduction to BEAM robotics" workshop on Saturday the 24th of July  2pm-4pm in the Science Gallery. Its open to all, from beginners to robot ninjas. You will get to build and take home a kit Solar powered BEAM Robot (Solar speeder II) and learn a bit about how BEAM robots work.

Tickets are on sale from the Science gallery website for 30 euro.  There are 14 places available. Tickets for past workshops have sold out super quick available (less than a week usually), so if you are interested I suggest being quick.

{joomplu:26}Make Night #5 is on the 7th July 18:00-20:00 in our usual Science Gallery home. Relaxed making is the order of the day once again. Get your materials together and come along and impress us with you mad making skillz.  Sorry I meant skills.  Fancy Italian coffee and cold beer is on sale downstairs in the cafe. The new Biorhythms Exhibition will be on by then, so I’m sure that will be worth a look also.
